The Charlotte Hornets get the job done at home. Defeating the Phoenix Suns 115 – 104. Coming into this match up there was a lot of unanswered questions for the Hornets. The last taste of victory was all the way back in 2024 versus the Indiana Pacers. Head Coach Charles Lee would get a chance to face off against his mentor Mike Budenholzer.

Lamelo Ball Post Game Comments

The Hornets did just that, play together as a family. During the 1st quarter and a half it was looking like The Suns would win in a blowout. Devin Booker was red hot. Finishing the quarter 15 points. The Suns as a whole shot 55% FG, and 66% 3P. The Hornet’s on the other hand didn’t have much going. Lamelo Ball looked as if he was forcing his shot. The youngest Ball Brother did not score until 5 minutes into the second quarter. The one positive for the Hornets in the first quarter was Nick Richards. His DNA was left all over the game. From rebounding, block shots, and free throw shooting.

What Changed For The Hornets

There was various key moments in this game for the hornets. Overall it was the teams commitment to defense. There were multiple plays where Miles Bridges was being disruptive with his hands. Cause the Slim Reaper to look like he was trapped in a phone booth.

While the Hornet’s turned up the defensive, the offense would start to flow. Lamelo Ball Would eventually get going mid way through the second corner. As usual. Ball would send shock waves through the arena on multiple plays.


What started off as a cold game for Lamelo Ball ended up with him scoring 32PTS, 10REBS, 7AST, and 4 STLS. Ball would not let his slow start deter him from making an impact on the game. Weather it was Lamelo pushing the ball in transition, rebounding, getting key steal he would get the job done.

What started off as a blue hot start for Phoenix would end with them being eclipsed. By the third quarter Kevin Durant, and Devin Booker would have 55 points out of the 81 points. With Bradley Booker coming off the bench he wasn’t much of any help. Beal would lead the team in plus minus being Nurkic with being a -21. Shooting 5-13 with 10 points. Watching the Suns felt like watching a glorified AAU team. A bunch of iso ball heroics. No real offensive or defensive identiry.

Takeaways

With “Three Allstar” players losing to a team on a 10 game losing streak the question needs to be asked; Is it time to blow up the Phoenix Suns. Bradley Beal is of no help to this team defensively. If he isn’t being used as a high usage player he is worthless on the roster.

For the Hornets can they lean into there defense and create a new identity. In transition they are an excited team to watch. When they play defense like tonight they are a deadly team. Nick Richards earned himself more minutes after tonight’s performance. Going 7-8 from the line he would be a thrown for the Sun’s all game. Rebounding, blocking shot’s, and spacing the floor.
