For week ten, it is a crucial time for a lot of teams in the CAA conference. Every game affects their playoff chances. William & Mary were coming off a 31-28 victory over Monmouth. Playing to keep their playoff hopes alive. As they were sitting in the middle of the pack at 5-3.
The Great Danes were coming off a recent victory over Maine. Looking to continue their dominance in the CAA. As they were sitting at 4-1 in the conference, in fourth place with a 6-3 record.
Once the game started the Great Danes came out gate swinging. Completed a 76 yard drive in just three plays. That drive ended in a Brevin Easton touchdown. What was impressive was UAlbany’s defensive stance. They held William & Mary to three straight punts.
By the second quarter Albany continued their dominance. The Great Danes put together an 11 play 45 yard drive. Which took almost six minutes off the clock. Even though they only scored a field goal it kept William & Mary off the field.
The defense complimented the offense efforts. Aamir Hall ended up intercepting quarterback Darius Wilson pass for a pick 6. Giving the Great Danes a 17-0 lead. For the second half it was much of the same. The defense held Wiiliam & Mary scoreless for the third quarter. The Tribe did not score until the fourth quarter at the 3:28 mark. At that point the game was out of reach 24-8.
While UAlbany Freshman Griffin Woodell rushed for 100 yards the major key was their defense. They kept William and Mary’s running game to just 45 yards, and their passing game to under 200 yards. With this loss it put William & Mary at 5-4. In the middle of the pack.
The Great Danes are now 7-3. Moving to third place in the conference. They are looking to get into the playoffs. Which means they have to also run the table. Stay tuned!
