Going into week six the 42nd governor’s cup between Rhode Island vs Brown was scheduled as the type of game as expected. Tough physical play until the final minute of the game. Brown was coming into Meade Stadium, rebounding from last week’s loss over Bryant 42-35. Rhode Island was coming into this week six game looking to build off their last two victories. There had to be some concern considering their last win came in double overtime. Which could take a toll physically on a team. The Rams were also not only looking to continue their winning streak. They also needed this victory to stay afloat at the top of the CAA Conference.

Usually in a rivalry game like this, both teams want to throw the first punch to set the tone. Rhode Island received the ball first, and on the third play of the game Devin Farrell threw an interception to defensive back Noble Copper. Cooper ran the ball back all the way to the two yard line. This did not give the Rams defense any chance to rebound or get a stop. As running back Jordan Delucia scored on a two yard touchdown run to give Brown a 7-0 lead. For the next few possessions both defenses were getting stops that resulted in punts. Midway through the first quarter Rhode Island started to click.
The Rams put together a six play, ninety- one yard drive.Which resulted in quarterback Devin Farrell completing an 18 yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Marquis Buchanan to tie the game.

It seemed as if the Rams offense had started to get into rhythm. On their next possession they marched back down the field on another successful drive. This time eleven plays, fifty seven yards. Taking more time off the clock ending with running back Malik Grant scoring on a two yard touchdown.
It was starting to look like the Rams had taken control of the game. Brown got back on track getting stops. Midway through the second period they marched down the field answering Rhode Island play/physicality. Taking time off the clock, and finishing the drive with a rushing TD from quarterback Jeff Wilcox.

Right before the first half ended the Rams seemed as if they were going to score but quarterback Devin Farrell was intercepted by defensive back Tim Malo.
This was critical, because not only did it take away the touchdown, but any points possible to take the lead and not to mention, it gave Brown momentum going into halftime, in which they used coming out for the second half.
When play resumed it was tough physical play as expected. Brown picked up right where they left off. Putting together another five plus minute drive. With 14 plays ending with running back Quiton Brown scoring on a one yard touchdown run. This was the only drive/opportunity that Brown would receive.
The Rams methodically moved down the field. Within fourteen plays taking seven plus minutes off the clock. Even though they did not tie the game with a touchdown, they did the unpopular thing and kicked the field goal. Cutting the lead to 21- 17. This game was looking like it was going to come down to the last play or down to the wire. Then the fourth quarter happened. The Rams capitalized on every opportunity in the quarter. and basically took over the game. There were so many plays in the quarter alone that dictated this. URI attempted to go for it on fourth and one and did not succeed. On their next possession within less than a minute, wide receiver Shawn Harris scored. The Rams went up by three (24-21). Brown responded, and marched back down the field. They got all the way to the Rhode Island 19 yard line, and attempted to kick a field goal to tie the game. The kick was blocked by linebacker Gabe Salomons. This play changed the game, and Rhode Island took the momentum for the rest of the quarter.
On the next possession Rhode Island put together a nine play. With a 80 yard drive that ended with quarterback Devin Farrell running in for the score. This drive not only put the Rams up by 10 (31-21), but the drive also took time off the clock Putting even more pressure on Brown to catch up. Brown did not go down without a fight. They attempted to make another run at coming back but RI defense was up to the challenge. Corner back Emanuel Gomes intercepted the ball on Browns next possession and when on their last drive of the game the Rams forced a fumble, shutting down any chances of a comeback.
