The Great Danes had a statement win over Binghamton this weekend 79-55. That statement was, for now UAlbany Women’s Basketball is the best team in the America East Conference. Coming into this game that statement was amplified when the Great Danes was voted #25 overall in the Women’s Mid Major’s. During the post game presser Coach Colleen Mullen shared thoughts on this accomplishment.
“It’s says a lot about the commitment that we had year in, and year out of players that continue to build. Especially players like Lilly, Kayla, and Abby Ray who have been here there whole career. There loyalty to get to this point is cool” UAlbany Head Coach, Colleen Mullen post game comments.

Key Takeaways
If you love ball movement this was the game to watch. The Great Danes had 24 assist on the night. Everyone including the bench players was involved on the action. Leading the charge with 7 assist, and 0 turnovers was Graduate, Forward Kayla Cooper. Cooper whom was named to Becky Hammon’s Mid Major player off the year got it done on both end’s of the floor. Drawing charges, and shooting above 50% for the game. Finishing with an impressive stat line of 20 points, 5 Rebounds, and 7 assist.

The biggest take away from this game is that the entire team continues to show up in numerous ways. Throughout conference play we have seen coaches triple team Cooper, and dare the rest of the Great Danes to attack them. Which they continue to grant there wish.
Lilly Phillips continues to stretch the floor, and knock down dagger shots. Again if your an opposing coach do you really want to triple team Kayla Cooper? Go ahead, the film suggest that’s not the answer with Lilly on the floor.

Kaci Donovan would end the game with a double, double. What was more impressive that the “box score” was the mismatch she presents for smaller guards, and wings. Defensively she gives opposing team nightmares.

Jessica Tomasetti continues to balance the floor and make the correct play. Tomasetti would be aggressive on the boards recording her 500th career rebound.

Despite the shooting splits Megan Huerter continues to impress with her minutes on the floor. The senior guard is playing very aggressive, and confidently. With Huerter confidence continuing to build the Great Danes become a hard team to stop.

The bench play for UAlbany has been amazing. The Great Danes put up 29 points from the bench. Outside of offensive production. The bench played a key part in play making and defense. Defensively Martina, and Gabriela continue to provide quality minutes. Lastly something that caught my eye during this game was Ma’Kayla Noble. The freshman only played for 1:35 seconds. Noble would face up and knock down a deep two pointer. There was no hesitation. Just pure confidence. When your freshman can step up, and play with that type of confidence something special is bound to happen.
