What Happened

The Monmouth Hawks gained a key victory in conference play over Delaware 92-83 this weekend. With this win Monmouth now moves up in the standing’s, and finds themselves in the middle of the pack for the CAA conference. Following the win during the post game presser Head Coach King Rice discuss Monmouth the recent success.
Taking accountability for the Hawks regular season record Coach Rice pointed at himself mentioning he “over scheduled”. From the outside looking in this may have worked out in Monmouth’s favor. Preparing them mentally, and physically for the grueling CAA Conference play.

The 6 P’s
As the old saying goes “Proper, Preparation, Prevents, Piss, Poor, Performances.” From watching the game (not the stat sheet) at OceanFirst Bank Center on Saturday you can tell the Hawks were mentality prepared. One way you could notice is be they way the team responded to getting fouled, and getting foul calls on them. Again you can’t stare at the stat sheet for this. On multiple plays Jack Collins was fouled, and hit in his face mask. Collins would play through the foul calls, and physicality.

Rising To The Occasion
Basketball players either shrink, or step up in pivotal moments. Following the win Sophomore Guard Andrew Ball discussed being prepared for more playing time. During various moment’s in the game Ball would show why he earned his minutes. Knocking down big shots, and putting pressure on the rim. Ball would finish with 10 Points, and 7 Rebounds.

Protecting The House
One thing that is a must in conference play is protecting home court literally, and metaphorically. Another sophomore took that phrase to heart versus Delaware. Insert the play of 6’7 Cornelius Robinson III. The New Jersey native spent the night altering shots, and causing a few key turnovers down the stretch. One thing that stuck out during this game is Cornelius doesn’t let a bad play affect him. There was no sulking. Just a mentality to keep playing, and making his presence known around the rim.

Dynamic Duo
Abdi Bashir Jr, and Madison Durr would combine for 52 point versus Delaware. It wasn’t just about the point’s they scored but how they made life difficult for Delaware. At various points in the game Delaware tried to through multiple double teams at Bashir. It wouldn’t matter. Bashir would feed off of his teammates, and make the correct plays throughout the game.

Madison Durr was unstoppable, and efficient all game. Following a 40 point explosion versus Drexel the Guard would continue to put on a show all game. Notably Durr has made 33 consecutive free throws, the program’s Division I record. Madison would attack the basket at will, and could not be stopped.
