Winning is always good , regardless of the score or how many you have, with every win they are hard to come by, definitely excited that we are playing a good brand of baseball, guys are understanding the importance of the win and we are just trying to keep it going and play good baseball and that process will allow us to get more wins, the win is a by product of us doing what we needed to do – Brooklyn Cyclones Coach Gilber Gomez
For Fridays night game the Cyclones were playing for a lot. They were not only trying to rebound from a Thursday night loss, they were also trying to gain ground on Hudson Valley and Greensboro. The top two teams in the conference. For Brooklyn, they got off to a fast start as they ended up scoring three runs in the bottom of the second. The charge was led by AJ Ewing who hit a line drive to center field, bringing in two runs. Then later in the inning scored off a fielders choice giving the Cyclones a 3-0 lead.
The Blue Rocks quickly responded. The first batter of the inning Murphy Stehly hit a home run to cut the lead to 2 (3-1). Then two batters later Caleb Loimavita hits double to center field to drive in a run to cut the lead to one (3-2). Little did we know that this would be it as far as runs/scoring was concerned. After that inning there was not another run scored. Rj Blackburn the starting pitcher for the Cyclones was taken out in the fourth inning and replaced with pitcher RJ Gordon. Who ended up with the win and a win that he rightfully deserved.
Gordon pitched four innings, one more then Blackburn and struck out four. Only giving up two hits until being replaced by Anthony Nunez who ended the game with a save. Nunez performance was just as dominate as he also struck out two and gave up no runs, nor put the team in any situations that would threaten there narrow lead.
Wilmington also had strong pitching performances, from Peyton Glavine, Samuel Vasquez, Thomas Schultz, after Tomlan was relieved in the Bottom of the fourth. Unfortunately, with Brooklyn dominating pitching wise also, there effort was lost in the game. With the win Friday night Brooklyn had moved up to first place, but it was a short stint, as Brooklyn lost the next game Saturday 8-5 and even though they came back Sunday to split the series 7-1, they now sit in third place behind Hudson Valley and Greeensboro, the top two teams in the conference and now travel to Ashville for a six game road trip, stay tuned!
