Siena vs Canisius Game Recap

Siena vs Canisius Game Recap

I think these guys are understanding we want to go punch for punch“ Siena Mens Basketball coach
Carmen Maciariello

Canisius was coming into tonights game, trying to attempt to break a two game losing streak and move up from the bottom spot in the conference. Siena meanwhile was looking to continue their two game winning streak. As the game begin, both teams were showing how badly they wanted to win this game, Canisius started the game off four for four, with an 8-2 lead, but Siena quickly responded, going on a 7-0 run and resulting them taking the lead 11-8. Once the Saints took the lead, they never looked back, there were times that Canisius in the first half closed on the lead. At one point there was a scoreless drought for three minutes and Canisius cut the lead to two 19-17, but then Siena responded and created a six point lead 23-17 and then a five point lead 30-25 at the 2:42 mark, ending the half with a 32-25 lead. The tight grip on the lead was created from the stops/defense they were getting and rebounds that where creating second chance shots.

In the second half it was much of the same story, Canisius got hot and went on a 7-2 run, tying the game at 34, but once again as coach Carmen stated in the post game press conference, the Saints took their best shot, going punch for punch. After tying the game the Saints went on another run, creating a six point lead, with Anthony Gaines leading the way with 16. and finished the night with 24. Canisius did not go away easy as Henderson was leading the charge on the other end who finished the game with 18, leading the team. The closest they got was with in 5 at the 10:38 mark, but every time after that, if they hit a shot to get close to taking the lead, Siena would respond with a clutch shot to open the lead back up. Around the two minute make of the game the Saints had sealed the victory with the stop they were getting, finishing the game with a 73-65 win. Now the Saints have one day to regroup and get ready for Friday night against Rider, keeping third place in check, stay tuned!
