“I am really impressed with them, like I told Colleen and I told the team, alot of teams would have opted out. They were on pause once and they were on pause twice and they had alot of things going on with their teams and I dont think anyone would have blamed them for opting out. So I just wanted them to notice that it was noticed and that they should be really proud of themselves. It is never easy to end your season on a loss, but they should be really proud of what they did this season.”

Going into the semifinal game, UAlbany was coming in with their most recent victory over New
Hampshire and looking to conquer the next task, which would be to defeat the #1 seeded Black Bears, in
their arena. Maine was looking to pick up right where they left off at, before their bye, they were on a
two game winning streak with their most recent victory over New Hampshire by 29 points. When the game begin, UAlbany got off to a strong start, taking a 7-2 lead, but then Maine quickly regained the momentum. The Black Bears ended the first period with a 14-10 lead, their momentum was lead by defense, scoring 5 of their 12 points, a momentum change from turnovers. Once the second period started, both teams were fighting keeping it a competitive game.

UAlbany was trying to keep up with the pace of UMaine, in which they did for the most part, as they pulled within three, midway through the second period. What prevented the great Danes from tying the game and not taking the lead, was the crucial threes made by Anne Simon, one at the beginning of the period to increase the lead from four to seven (17-10), creating an uphill battle for UAlbany. The second was when UAlbany had pulled within three (21-18) and Simon hit another crucial shot to increase the lead back to six and finishing the period with a ten point lead before the half.

Once the third quarter started, UMaine picked up right where they left off at , their lead increased from ten to thirteen at beginning of the period. They outscored UAlbany 24-13 in the period alone and ended with them building the lead to 21 (52-31). UAlbany came back in the fourth, outscoring them 17-16, but the damage had already been done, Maine finished the game with the victory 67-47. With this win they solidified the American East Championship game would be played on their home court, meanwhile in the other brackett, in Stony Brook, Long Island, the Seawolves had defeated Umass Lowell. This setup of what would have been last years American East Championship game, but was canceled due to coovid. The only difference this season, is it will be played in Maine and not in Stony Brook, stay tuned!
