For Saturday’s HBCU game Virginia Union was coming in hot. Virginia Union were 4-1 for the month of February, and they were looking to continue to build upon their last victory over Bowie St 68-62. Continuing their winning streak was not the only thing of importance. With every game counting being that they are tied for first place with Virginia StateLincoln PA, who was second to last place in the Northern Division of the CIAA, were looking to break their six game losing streak. Also to rebound from their recent loss to Staten Island 63-57.
When the game began, it pretty much was an even match for the first period. It was a back and forth with VU leading at the end of the first period 16-13. After the first period VU took over and never looked back. Virginia Union outscored Lincoln, PA 24-10 in the second period.

Their three point shooting is what led to them creating the double digit lead. VU made four of their six, three point shot attempts, giving them a 40-23 lead at halftime. Even though Lincoln PA did play VU tough, and closer in the third period, it did not make a difference.
At the end of the third period Virginia Union led by 22 (55-34), and they finished the game with a 28 point win. The key to their victory was not only the three point shooting, it was the points that they were scoring in the paint in the second half. Virginia Union did not make a single three point shot in the second half. They did score 52 points in the paint for the game, behind the play of Rori Cox, Nevaeh Reaves and Taniyah Greene who Coach calls a Beast!

Scored a combined 48 of their 77 points. This victory kept them tied for first place in their division, and was even more important because a week from this game they are scheduled to play Virginia St who they are tied for first with, but have Shaw next.
When coach Terry was asked if she was concerned or if she was worried that her team was going to be caught looking past them, she responded “that she is a game by game coach, and also they owe Shaw big time because they lost to them in the tournament, so we owe them something terrible”.
Coach Terry backed up those statements, as they defeated Shaw 77-53 on Monday, and Elizabeth City the day after 73-46.
