Black Rich Port Album Review | Words By: @Sonofajones

God Emcee, Brooklyn native Agallah The Don restores order within hip-hop culture. In the 4th quarter of 2024 the platinum artist released Black Rich Port. The title Black Rich Port, is well fitting. The original name of that beautiful Island where my ancestors (and my fellow Boríquen’s) come from was called Borinquen. When the colonizers came to the island, and discovered the riches, and gold the island was given the nickname “Rich Port”.

This album is full of gold, and riches if you are a true lover of hip-hop. If you’re not a true hip-hop head then take ya ass over to Complex Magazine or something. Back to the review. What the hip-hop veteran did was masterly craft the supreme wisdom, and  lessons, and wrapped in black/boriqua culture.

Agallah The Don starts the album off addressing the “elephant in room”. A subject of discussion for the last year has been the role/impact that Puerto Rican’s have played within hip-hop.

“Puerto Rock’s In Hip-Hop, no we ain’t invent it/When you say the N-Word some of ya gonna take it offensive/ This that big aura yea we get from the elders” – Agallah The Don

The Don wasted no time in spitting supreme wisdom.

“If you don’t the answers start asking question/Listen to the God Bodies, and study ya lessons/ I can prove all of my fact’s with no objections/ (A) Alike (B) Alike, You (C) in the father’s reflection/ Stay out my way if you and Allah ain’t got a connection/ Allah can be the truth/ depends how you manifest it” – Agallah The Don

The first track was enough to get any true fan of hip-hop hooked. Not just a master on the mic. Agallah didn’t miss on the production. Every beat on the album laid the foundation for the emcee. It was a perfect marriage.

Features

Steel sharpens Steel, and the emcee’s that Agallah chose to lyrically spar with didn’t disappoint. Each cypher left gold on the streets similar to Mansa Musa. This wouldn’t be the first time Tragedy & Agallah would cypher. The two would collide on Allah’s Cartel, and Love and Feared. The Don, and Tragedy Khadafi would flip bar after bar on Love and Feared. Pure Poetry.

One of my favorite feature Keep Living ft GREA8GAWD. GREA8GAWD has the ability to take over any track he’s on. These two have a history, collabing on prior track’s like The Grea8’s, Gawdbrova, Merciful. The Gawd Brother’s complemented each other so well on Keep Living. Superb track!

Inshallah

Is an Arabic phrase that means if God wills or God willing. It’s used to express hope for something to happen in the future. Agallah used this track to express his love for Allah for given him purpose in life. The Don, let’s it be known “Depend on Allah when all of ya fell abandon”. Real jewelry was left on this track. In your under the age of 35 this album is what the golden era of hip-hop felt, and sounded like. It wasn’t about what was on billboard. It was about who was the best emcee, and how best you could craft a message.

Agallah pulled his resume out on this album. “Ask Parrish (PMD), Ask Erick (E) Man you N### is pathetic man/ I’ve Been Prolific”. Ya got to do the knowledge on the connection with PMD, and Agallah. What I will say is it’s solidifies a 25 plus year career for the Don!

Overall if we keeping it hip-hop this was album was much needed in today’s climate. The underground of hip-hop is on fire, and Black Rich Port is keeping the flame lit.
